While that decision might not have been well planed out, it sure changed our lives and we want to share everything that we have learned with you. Cooking and baking from scratch might seem intimidating but it really is easy, let us show you! It’s time to get cooking!

Frequently Asked Questions About Sourdough

What is Sourdough?

Sourdough is a replacement for the yeast you would use to get your bread to rise. Sourdough is a naturally leavened bread. All you need to do is mix water and flour together to produce a good bacteria to help your bread rise. Not to mention sourdough provides a delicious flavor!

How is sourdough different from regular bread?

Regular bread is made with store bought yeast. Sourdough is made with a “starter” that is a mixture of flour and water which produces good bacteria to make the bread rise naturally.

Is sourdough the healthiest bread for you?

Sourdough bread contains higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants than other breads. It also contains lower levels of phytate and therefore allows your body to absorb the nutrients it contains more easily than those in regular bread. Sourdough also contains a bacteria such as Akkermansia that is necessary for feeding your gut microbiome and keeping a healthy gut.

Will sourdough bread help me lose weight?

According to some research, sourdough-leavened wholemeal bread can help a person lose excess weight. This effect is due to the combined glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) ratings.
